Cloves
THREE CANADIAN TOUR DATES THIS MONTH

19 May 2017 (Toronto, ON) – CLOVES, simply, is on a mission to make music to remember. Today she returns with a brand new single, “California Numb”, out via Island Records Australia/ Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The track combines earth-shattering vocals & honest verses to savour, all attributes that we’re coming to expect from the young Melbourne born, London based singer-songwriter-producer who’s currently on a stretch of North American tour dates with this year’s Ivor Novello and Brit nominated favourite Michael Kiwanuka.
“‘California Numb’ is about catching yourself off guard” explains CLOVES, continuing “It’s about the moment you realise you’re becoming somebody you don’t want to be, the idea of losing yourself in something or someone else you shouldn’t be influenced by, and having to claw yourself back”.
Looking ahead to her upcoming debut album, the music promises to be bold and ambitious, words you don’t see in many new music reviews surfacing these days. It’s music harking back to the days of distinct bodies of work with great care for arrangement and identity, but great lack of interest in the general consensus to “formula”, a time of great album artists thinking beyond the single culture of the now…. It’s music that’s not safe, it’s all or nothing – like putting all your money on black on roulette, and CLOVES, is going big with no plans on going home.  The record has primarily been written by herself with select key collaborators including Justin Parker (Rihanna, Mikky Ekko, Sia, Lana Del Rey), Starsmith (Ellie Goulding, Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne) and Ariel Rechtshaid (HAIM, Adele, Vampire Weekend, Brandon Flowers)
After an amazing run of sold out shows with James Bay in the US last year, CLOVES started this year with an illustrious showcase in Sydney, a sold-out show at London’s Omeara and a spine tingling performance at the 2017 APRA Music Awards of ‘Satan’ – the APRA Song of the Year originally performed by D.D Dumbo. She is now joining Michael Kiwanuka on a 17-date tour around North America including stops in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal (full details below). There is an undeniably compelling and heart-wrenching element to CLOVES’ live show; “CLOVES expertly lets her powerful vocals do the muscle work, drawing you in with each word she utters.” – Pigeons & Planes
Annie Mac selected CLOVES as one of her New Faces to look out for in 2016 and a great year of festival touring included performing at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Latitude and BST Hyde Park. Her song “Don’t Forget About Me” was selected for a crucial moment in the film “Me Before You” starring Emilia Clarke. The track saw many new immediate fans gravitate towards her music which most evident from strong numbers on Shazam (now over a million), 100k worldwide record sales on iTunes & impressive early streaming numbers on Spotify (35m) & Vevo (17m). It is safe to say 2017 is looking even stronger, with the release of her debut album and a string of incredible tour dates & a record to start revealing.
