Barns Courtney - New Single Golden Dandelions
TORONTO SHOW JUNE 7 AT VELVET UNDERGROUND
“She came to me in robes of white, in the corner of my room, a spectre of the night, silhouetted by the moon
We’re floating fast over traffic lights, bearing down on blackened sky. And colours burst as i close my eyes
And she said ‘Lay me down in Golden Dandelions, cos i’ve been waiting for this moment all of my life’
Follow me into the dark…”
02 JUNE 2017 (Toronto, ON) Barns Courtney today unveils his breath-taking new single “Golden Dandelions”, the next taster from his forthcoming debut album, scheduled for release this autumn. Melding together the life-affirming abandon of The Libertines with the euphoric, percussive drive of Arcade Fire, and a harmonious edge reminiscent of the Beach Boys, “Golden Dandelions” marks a huge creative step forward for the UK born, US raised troubadour. Co-produced by Barns while on the road in the US and UK, “Golden Dandelions” was born from the darkness of his artistic struggle, as he vividly paints images of trippy, hyperreal imagery.
Despite not having yet released his debut album, Barns Courtney has already experienced more highs and lows than most artists could wish to encounter in an entire lifetime. His is a story of family turmoil, bad record industry deals, homelessness, serendipitous meetings with movie moguls and sheer talent and hard work winning out against the odds. Barns’ confessional, life-affirming blues and rock ‘n’ roll anthems-in-waiting draw on the breadth of these events, the positives and negatives of his experiences’ baring their scars for all to see.
“Golden Dandelions” follows Barns’ debut singles “Glitter and Gold” and “Fire”. “Fire” has been streamed more than 12,000,000 times on Spotify and saw Barns perform on Conan O’Brien’s talkshow in the US, to rave reviews at SXSW and at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, as well as securing him support slots with the likes of Blur and The Libertines on tour.
With a show in Toronto next week (June 7 at Velvet Underground) and festival dates at Reading & Leeds, Bestival (UK) and Festival No 6 lined up, this summer is sure to see Barns go from strength to strength ahead of the release of his debut album this autumn.
