Synopsis

David Fincher's The Social Network is the stunning tale of a new breed of cultural insurgent: a punk genius who sparked a revolution and changed the face of human interaction for a generation, and perhaps forever. Shot through with emotional brutality and unexpected humor, this superbly crafted film chronicles the formation of Facebook and the battles over ownership that followed upon the website's unfathomable success. With a complex, incisive screenplay by Aaron Sorkin and a brilliant cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake, The Social Network bears witness to the birth of an idea that rewove the fabric of society even as it unraveled the friendship of its creators.

Review

Although the idea of a film documenting the rise of Facebook sounds interesting, I found that the film lacked something. It leaves the viewer wondering if in fact all that is here is true being that it is not fully a documentary. I find that the acting is very well and having Jesse Eisenberg to play Mark Zuckerberg was the perfect casting. Great film idea, great potential, but I feel the script is a little weak for my taste.

I love true stories, and this one in particular is very interesting. Dennis Hopper as Frank Sinatra is a great match, and having Joel Edgerton to play Rod Blue truly made the film classic.

Synopsis

From the studio that brought you Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda comes How to Train Your Dragon—an adventure comedy set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild fire-breathing dragons, based on the book by Cressida Cowell.

The story centers around a Viking teenager named Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), who lives on the Island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. The teen's rather progressive views and offbeat sense of humor don't sit too well with his tribe or its chief…who just happens to be Hiccup's father, Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler). When Hiccup is included in Dragon Training with the other Viking teens—Astrid (America Ferrara), Snotlout (Jonah Hill), Fishlegs (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), and twins Ruffnut (Kristen Wiig) and Tuffnut (T.J. Miller)—he sees his chance to prove he has what it takes to be a fighter. But when he encounters (and ultimately befriends) an injured dragon, his world is flipped upside down, and what started out as Hiccup's one shot to prove himself turns into an opportunity to set a new course for the future of the entire tribe.

Review

It is one of the finest animated fantasy film ever made. The rides of Hiccup and his pet dragon named Toothless into the mountains and clouds are breathtaking.

Aside from the stunning visual effects, the film has a solid family virtue combined with the right mix of emotion and script.

The movie surprised me tremendously. I thought it was a movie made to entertain kids only but I ended up watching the film over and over again.

I found myself on the edge of my seat almost the whole way through the film. When I saw that the film starred Michael Douglas, and Kiefer Sutherland I new that the film had promise. Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland delivered on that promise and more. This is a great film.

I must caution parents though there are some adult situations in the film, so please be advised.

Bastian, a lonely schoolboy, alienated from his father and bullied by his classmates, retreats to an attic where he becomes engrossed in a book entitled "The Neverending Story." It is the tale of a magical kingdom named, appropriately, Fantasia, since it is a world born of human fantasies. Fantasia is being destroyed by great storms of Nothingness as mankind loses faith in the powers of imagination and fantasies die. Dangerously ill herself, Fantasia's youthful empress sends a handsome warrior on a quest to find a cure for both her and her kingdom. After encounters with flying dragons, swamp monsters and a vast assortment of other fantastic creatures, the young hero discovers that only a human boy can save Fantasia, at which point Bastian is drawn, literally, into the pages of the story.

"Oliver Stone brings the complex financial world easier for the ordinary audience to understand and enjoy. The film has surprising twists that keeps you thinking.

Except for the phone conversation scenes which shows the characters side by side and the funny ringtone of Jacob Moore, the film is worth watching. The movie confronts the issues of greed, betrayal and reconciliation. It will make you think what really matters at the end of the day. "

I absolutely recommend this film to everyone, this is a great family film from beginning to end. When I bought this film, I honestly bought it as something to put on before I go to bed to get sleepy. With that said, the complete opposite happened as I got so into this movie. In addition I found that Jack Black did an outstanding job.

Synopsis

An alternative to the general run of "triumph over the odds" biopics, My Left Foot is the true story of Irish cerebral palsy victim Christy Brown. Paralyzed from birth, Brown (played by Hugh O'Conor as child and Daniel Day-Lewis as an adult) is written off as retarded and helpless. But Christy's indomitable mother (Brenda Fricker) never gives up on the boy. Using his left foot, the only part of his body not afflicted, Brown learns to write. He grows up to become a well-known author, painter, and fundraiser, and along the way falls in love with nurse Mary Carr (Ruth McCabe). There's no sugarcoating in My Left Foot: Brown, a heavy drinker, was by no means lovable. Day-Lewis and Fricker both won Academy Awards for their performances, and the film was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Also notable are the late Ray McAnally in his next-to-last film role as Christy's father, and venerable Cyril Cusack as Lord Castlewelland. Director Jim Sheridan co-scripted with Shane Connaughton from Christy Brown's autobiography.

Review

This beautiful true story is weaved together by the great performances of Daniel Day-Lewis and Brenda Fricker. I was blessed in that I did not know really anything about the story of Christy Brown; to watch this story be unravelled on the screen and brought to life is simply magnificent. I would recommend this film to anyone with only one reservation; there is a small amount of course language. All in all this is a great film that need not have anything about it changed.
